Hodgkinson recorded her personal best of one minute 54.61 seconds last year in London.

The Olympic champion finished her two-lap season with a triumph at the women-only Athlos meet in New York on Friday night.

{The reigning Olympic champion, who earned third place at the World Championships last month, excelled in an outstanding victory in one minute 56.53 seconds in what was only her sixth race in a year affected by a muscle issue.

Fellow Briton and global silver winner Georgia Hunter Bell finished second again in one minute 58.33 seconds, while St Vincent's Shafiqua M. (one minute 58.57) secured third place.

"I haven't competed much this season so it was probably less of a struggle for me to go out there and want to give it something," stated Hodgkinson.

"The environment out there is crazy so it was really, really fun."

The female-exclusive event filled Icahn Stadium in its second edition, bringing a party atmosphere to conventional athletics, with live music and Tiffany & Co. crowns substituting traditional winners' medals.

The 23-times tennis major winner Serena W., who is wed to Athlos founder Alexis Ohanian, was present to present the victors with their tiaras.

Last year's winners took home sixty thousand dollars (forty-four thousand six hundred and three pounds) - among the biggest cash prizes in track and field.

The event also drew some of the sport's biggest names, as Kenya's triple Olympic champion and world record holder Faith Kipyegon triumphed in the mile race, finishing in four hours 17.78 minutes.

American Brittany Brown, the 200m bronze winner from the recent Paris Games, won the 100m and 200m double.
